Sweet Potato Hash Recipe

Here it is!  I know you have been anxiously awaiting this announcement. {Yep, my sarcasm is still firmly in place for the new year.  You've been warned... er.... made aware.}

Kevin and I through this together one day for lunch when we were stranded at home due to flood waters.  This was the best tasting creation we've made so far.  Since I actually remembered to write down the ingredients we used, I can pass the recipe on to all of you.

I'm not sure that this is a true hash, but it's much easier to say 'Sweet Potato Hash' when talking about it than 'that sweet potato dish with onions and sausage and seasoning and maybe some eggs'.  So, I've dubbed it 'Hash'.  Because I can.  Um... okay... on with the show.

Sweet Potato Hash

2 medium sweet potatoes diced
1 small onion diced
1/2 lb ground sausage (fully cooked)(optional)
1 Tbsp coconut oil
2 cloves garlic minced
1 tsp season salt
2 scrambled eggs (optional)

~Microwave diced sweet potato for about 3 minutes in 1 minute intervals until soft.*

~Melt coconut oil in skillet.

~Add diced onion and sauté until onion is almost clear in appearance.

~Add minced garlic.

~Add diced sweet potato to skillet and sprinkle with 1 tsp season salt.

~Sauté until there is nice color on the potato pieces and they are completely cooked through.

~Now would be the time to add cooked sausage and/or scrambled eggs if you choose.

~Heat through and serve {maybe with a side of pancakes with yummy, warm banana syrup}.

Microwaving the diced sweet potatoes is a KEY step!  Don't skip this!  By essentially pre-cooking them, you have less chance of burning them in the skillet - which is really easy to do.

Hope you all enjoy this recipe!  Make sure to give me some feedback on Facebook.

Keep enjoying life!

Kids In The Kitchen: Easy Mock Strawberry Cheesecake Bites

It's a love - hate feeling for me when my kids want to get in the kitchen.  I love that they want to create and learn about how to fix different foods.  I hate the extra time it takes and the mess it can make.  Believe me, I'm working on my attitude and willingness in this area.

The other day my 10 year old begged me to let her in the kitchen because she wanted to make cheesecake.  Um, no.  Wasn't happening.

Then she explained she didn't really want to make cheesecake, but she had an idea.  I gave in and now I'm glad I did.  Here's what she came up produced with just 3 simple ingredients!

Mock Strawberry Cheesecake Bites

What you need:

Fresh strawberries
Cream cheese - room temperature
Graham crackers

Wash your strawberries and then pat them dry.  Set them to the side.

Place a couple of graham crackers in a plastic bag and grind to a fine crumb.  (Use a food processor for easier method.)

Put crumbs in a small bowl or plate.

Use a butter knife to spread cream cheese on the bottom 2/3 of the strawberries.

Roll cream cheese covered strawberries in graham cracker crumbs.

And you're DONE!

These turned out so pretty and taste really good!  She did an awesome job!  And, as you can tell, she is pretty proud of herself.

So, do you turn your kids loose in the kitchen?  At what age did you start letting them get creative with food?  This is definitely one area I'm hoping to lighten up on this summer.

Family Favorite Recipes: Two Bean Chicken Chili

This is a recipe my SIL introduced us to soon after she and my brother were married. It's amazingly easy to make for a family meal or to double when having company.  And, {IF you have any leftovers} it reheats well in the microwave or on the stove top.

Would you like to have a freezer meal or slow cooker meal with little to no prep work needing to be done?  THIS IS THAT RECIPE!!

2 Bean Chicken Chili

Ingredients:

1 can Black Beans (rinsed and drained)

1 can Pinto Beans (rinsed and drained)

2 cans chicken broth

8 oz. corn

1 T chili powder

1 clove of garlic

1 jar chunky mild salsa

3 cups cooked chicken

8 oz tomato sauce (Mexican hot if available)

1 chopped zucchini (optional)

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a large soup pot on stove top.  Stir and bring to a boil.  Simmer for 30 minutes.

That's it.  Seriously.

Want to add a little extra to it?  Our family likes to put a dollop of sour cream on top, a good sprinkle of shredded cheese and then scoop it all up with Fritos or Tostitos.  {Has anyone else noticed that my recipes never end up in the low fat category?!}

Family Favorite Recipes: Taco Night

I'm on a mission this year to find some great, flavorful, paleo recipes.  With so many people in our family, it can be hard to find things that everyone likes.

We have some texture issues.

We have sensitivity issues.

We have those typical kids that turn their nose up at the food because of how it looks.

To top it all off, I've been blessed with not one, but TWO kids that don't like pizza sauce!

The one meal we all seem to be able to eat and enjoy together is when we have tacos.  And, let's face it, that's because each person gets to customize his or her plate.  Some want cheese, some want sour cream, some want lettuce, some want none of those things and others want it all.

For me it's the one night I don't have to have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on standby.

We've hit on a couple of really good, full of flavor taco seasoning recipes in our search that I wanted to share with all of you.

First is this taco seasoning recipe from Caveman Food.  The kids absolutely loved it!  {Kevin and I, too}  And all the ingredients were just sitting in my cabinet waiting to be put to use.  The only thing I did differently was to add more than the 1/4 cup of water.  Play around with it just a bit to get it to the consistency you like.  Make sure you have a place to store the extra mix, too.  I'm able to get two Taco Nights out of this recipe.

This next one steps things up a notch.  Paleo Newbie is a fantastic site with all kinds of good recipes. The steak fajita recipe is one we add to our taco night every so often to give Kevin and I a real treat.

Some of the things I did with the recipe:

  • Used olive oil
  • Added a little more than the 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper the recipe calls for
  • Threw all the marinade ingredients on the meat.  Yep, didn't read the recipe through first, so I didn't know that half was supposed to go on the veggies.  Turned out great regardless.
We've used the fajita recipe twice now.  Once we had sirloin.  Once we had flank.  I preferred the sirloin.  Kevin preferred the flank.  Regardless, both were excellent!

I have these recipes and others on my Pinterest, so feel free to go over and check that out.  I'd also love to hear what recipes you've come across that have turned out great.  I'll continue to keep you updated on the recipes that have scored high with our family.

Easy Microwave Sweet Potato

Growing up we had potatoes just about every evening for supper.  Baked, fried, roasted.....we never got tired of them.   I LOVED it!

We may have made the switch from Russet to Yukon Gold over the last 13 years of marriage, but I still love a good baked, or roasted potato with a meal.

In the past couple of years my family has been eating a little differently and those baked potatoes haven't made it on our plates nearly as much.  The new kid on the block has been the sweet potato.
It's only been recently that I've started to enjoy eating them, though.

The cooking method is what gets me.  I could put them in the crockpot, but that takes 6 or 7 hours.  I could bake them, but that takes at least 1 hour.  Unfortunately, I'm not a planner and we would never have sweet potatoes with our meals if I had to rely on these methods.

Since I needed a better method for me, Kevin and I have worked together to figure out an easy way to cook them and get them to the supper table quickly.  LOVE my microwave!!

Here's what you do:
  • Wash and dry your sweet potato.  Then place it in the microwave.  Don't worry about poking holes.  We place it straight in the microwave, but it can always be put on a plate or dish to cook.
  • Cook on high for 5 minutes.
  • Flip the sweet potato over and cook for another 4 to 5 minutes.
  • At this point, the sweet potato should be really soft.
  • Let set until you can handle it without burning your fingers.
  • Start peeling the skin off your sweet potato.  (Use a knife to get things started, if you like)
The skin should just peel right off and leave you with all the wonderful meat for your meal.

What to put on it?  A little coconut oil is good.  Or you could add some cinnamon, too.  I like just putting a little salt and pepper on it.  Very simple, but satisfying!

Enjoy a sweet potato with your next meal and let me know how you like it!

** Nutritional values of sweet potato vs potato.  Incase you wanted to compare.  There's not a huge difference overall, but the Vitamin A content difference is amazing!

Green Apple Pie Smoothee Recipe

Last week Kevin and I did a 5 day cleanse. (There will be more information about that in another post later.)  Today I want to share with you a recipe we came up with to help curb some of the cravings and make the week a little more normal.  Because, I'm tellin' ya, I am not a veggie person.

It's a very simple recipe with only five ingredients.

Green Apple Pie Smoothee
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 honey crisp apple
Handful or more baby spinach
2 scoops vanilla Shaklee 180 smoothee mix
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Put in a handful or more baby spinach.  It's really up to you.  A lot of spinach can be added before you actually start to taste it in the finished smoothee.
Add your chopped up honeycrisp apple.  Leave the skin on to get all the fiber and nutrients!
Pour in 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk.
Next, add 2 scoops Shaklee 180 vanilla smoothee mix.
Finally is 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon.  Feel free to add more to taste.
Mix well.
Serve
This smoothee recipe has been getting a lot of requests since we first put it together.  Below is a picture of my 6 year old daughter and (almost) 5 year old son enjoying their own smoothee.  Even my 10 year old daughter who doesn't eat green vegetables, is requesting this!  How cool is that?!  My kids are now asking me to give them spinach.  Not a top request from most kids.

We have many other smoothee combinations and recipes we like, but it's nice to have one with a green veggie that tastes like you are cheating the system just a little bit.  Kevin and the kids have actually been joking around about this being 'Shrek in a Blender'.  As long as they drink it, they can call it what they want.

I'd love to hear how what you think of it!

Also, I still have some Free stuff to pass along to several people.  Here's the link to the post with all the information you need -->  Celebrating Great Things

Finally, here's an easy picture for your Pinterest pinning pleasure.  Enjoy!!

Happy New Year!!

Okay.  Yes..... I know we are already several days into 2015.  However, my kids just went back to school today, so this is the real start of my year.  ;)

I'm really excited about all the possibilities 2015 has to offer.  It's been a while since we haven't had some major medical event scheduled the first week of January, everyone is currently healthy, and the weather is only cold at this point and not nasty.

There are some great ideas buzzing around in my head.  (Well, great to me.)  Ideas I hope to share with you all as the year goes on.  I have so many goals - for me, my family and our health, my home, and my business.  I'm so ready to start working in all these areas and excited to share some wonderful things with all my friends and family!

Right off the bat, Kevin and I are working on bettering our health.  Today we started a 5 Day Mini-Cleans/Detox with Shaklee.  It's going to help us both get started on the right foot this year.  And, it's especially needed after all the holiday heavy foods, sweets and eating out due to travel.

Both of us are feeling great so far!  It's going to be interesting to see how well I do not reaching for my usual foods.  So far, so good, though, and I have high hopes for the rest of the week.  We'll keep you posted on our progress and results.

Something else I've decided to do to help get healthy this year is adding exercise.  I'd love to tell you I want to add more or increase weight or shoot for a higher milage than I accomplished in 2014.  Sadly, 2014 was full of very little to no exercise - unless you can count moving furniture around the house.
I may have a problem....
This year I hope to change that!  (Well, not the moving furniture part.)  I have a great supporter in my husband {one might even call him a little pushy}, but I thought it would be fun to get more people together in a group.  A place were we can cheer each other on, share ideas and recipes, and even do a little bragging when a goal is reached.  Most of all, a place for us all to have fun!  If you want to join me in a healthier 2015, join my new Facebook group Operation: Get it Movin'.  I would love to have you!

Okay.  So there's a quick overview of what I would like to get accomplished.  I'll be doing a lot more sharing in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned!  2015 is looking like a great year!

Keeping Kids Naturally Healthy

Clearwater Beach Oct 2014
With five kids at home ranging in age from 11 to 4, you can imagine we have some pretty humorous conversations at times.  One comment from a couple months or so back really struck me as funny.  Here's what went on-

Me- Madi has an appointment tomorrow.  You kids need to get up and get ready, so we're not running behind in the morning.

Sawyer - Madi's doctor or my doctor?

Caroline - Madi's doctor.  We haven't been to see our doctor in a loooonnggg time.  Mom, I miss Dr. Carney.

Everyone chimes in in agreement.

At this point I just laughed at the fact that my kids were missing their pediatrician.  But it really got me thinking about how things had changed around our home and how much healthier we've all been. Then I started to wonder what the changes were that have made our lives healthier and better overall.  I came up with 3 major things.

1. They Drink More Water

This sounds way too easy a change, right?  Um.... no.  See the thing about drinking more water is it means the kids aren't drinking their usual beverage of choice.  What's in your pantry and fridge right now that the kids grab when thirsty?  Juice? Pop? Powder drink mix? Those were the big ones our kids drank all the time.  Pop/Soda/Coke is just all kinds of nasty.  Maybe not in taste, but definitely for their little bodies.  And we all know this.  Juice sounds better and we can even justify it in a lot of ways to be good for us.  However, juice is a sugary drink with very little nutritional value.  Do I really need to comment on the drink mix?

It took all of us a while to get used to filling a glass with water instead of one of the other choices above.  I was one of the biggest offenders!

What did I do to convince all the kids to reach for the water and not the pop?  Funny thing - when you only have water or milk in the house to drink, that's all anyone can drink.  If I knew I wasn't strong enough to say 'no' to a cold Dr. Pepper, how could I expect my 9-yr-old to say 'no'?!  I had to make the conscience decision not to buy certain drinks, so the temptation wouldn't be around.

My kids now crave water.  If they don't want water, there is always the option of milk.  Do they still drink the other?  Sure.  On occasion.  Sometimes there's no avoiding it.  Especially when you go to as many pitch-ins as our family does.  And, that's fine.  I just try to control the other 95% of the time.

2. I Cleaned Up Their Food

Food is hard.  Harder than changing what the kids drink.  Much harder.

Here's my experience :  I scour the internet for some wonderful, healthy, multi-step, labor intensive meal.  I spend my time and effort making this meal for six others and myself.  I serve it up for all of my amazing and loving family with a smile on my face.

And then REALITY hits....... ALL the kids turn up their noses and make a face like they just caught a glimpse of the most disgusting thing ever.  A couple of them pick up their fork and start making an attempt to at least look like they are going to try whatever is on their plate.  A couple of the kids don't care about hurting my feelings and flat out refuse to try the new culinary creation in front of them.  One might make an attempt to try the food; but, the measly morsel on the fork doesn't really count.  Then I casually glance at my loving husband and can tell by the look on his face he is only eating it to make me feel better.

About that time is when I want to throw in the towel and revert back to my box mixes, take out and casseroles.

It's frustrating, overwhelming and down right depressing at times to change the way you cook.  However, it is worth it so don't give up!

My best advice for you is K.I.S.S..  Keep It Simple (um) Sweetie.

It will take some time to learn a new way to cook.  That's OK.  Don't try to all the sudden become a chef that belongs in a 5 star restaurant.  Try fixing a lean protein, a couple of veggies or salad, and add in a fresh fruit on the side.  To make it even easier, keep the veggies raw or lightly steamed and sprinkle with garlic salt.  I love sending my husband out to the grill with our meat for the evening.  For those nights Kevin isn't home, I've learned to grill a couple things and have a couple of easy recipes for the stove top or oven to cook meat.  Having fruit at the table acts to both round out our meal and to satisfy the sweet tooth most of my family has.

It's a learning process for everyone.  We've tried many different veggies to see who likes what.  Carrots and cucumbers are the most popular in our house.  We have one kid who's idea of a good vegetable is corn and nothing else.  *sigh* We still make her try new things in hopes of her learning to like more foods.

Snacks is another area that's hard.  Keep lots of fresh foods and easy, healthy items the kids can get by themselves on hand.  Oranges, apples, bananas, cheese sticks or slices, yogurt, carrots, granola, nuts, raisins, celery, peanut butter, salsa, hummus, chips, ect....  Just keep an eye on the ingredients of any prepackaged foods you purchase.

3. Immunity Has Been Boosted

It's not always what your kids are exposed to, it's how strong their immune system is to combat it.

Think about it.  What we put in our bodies is either going to help or hurt our immune system.  That's just the way it is.  Sugar is going to wreak havoc on an immune system and make it much harder to fight off infection.  That's why cleaning up the food in your house will benefit your kids so much.

Another area that can impact the immune system is sleep or lack of it.  I know there are only so many hours in a day and there's always something going on or that needs to be done, but we all need our sleep.  Kids need even more.  Get them in bed at a good time each night as much as possible.  Our kids head to bed between 8 pm and 8:30 pm.  Do they fall asleep right away?  Not all of them.  The younger ones typically have no trouble.  The older kids can spend the time they are awake reading in bed.  Even our 6th grader has the same bedtime as the younger ones, as long as her homework is done.  She's able to get plenty of sleep, get up at 6 am and function better during the day since she gets a good amount of sleep.

We also supplement to boost their immune systems.

Multivitamins - The ones the kids take are chewable and have Lactoferrin (a component of the immune system) included in the ingredients.  It also helps our kids get the vitamins and minerals they don't get enough of from the foods they eat.

Probiotics - Did you know 60-70% of the immune system is located in our gut?  Taking a good probiotic helps keep the good bacteria at a level that will crowd out the bad and help prevent infection.  This is one thing our daughter's oncologist encouraged us to add to her diet when I asked him about taking a probiotic.

So.  Now you might be thinking..... Are you really able to do this all the time?

My answer...... AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! {wiping away tears from eyes} NO.

Many foods in life taste really good even though they aren't good for us.  It's hard to not indulge every once in awhile.  And sometimes we have steroid induced cravings.

We try hard to keep things healthy, though.  The way we all feel and amount of energy we have when we do follow these simple rules makes it worth it.  Even the kids have commented about how 'yuck' they feel when they decide to eat poorly.

It's all fairly simple, it's just not necessarily easy.  Make small changes and take baby steps until you get where you want to be.  I'm always available to answer any questions and help where I can.

Here's to keeping all our kids healthy!!

New Product Review - MindWorks, Immunity & Protein

I've been hard at 'work' these past couple of weeks testing Shaklee's new products - MindWorks, Vitalized Immunity and Vitalizing Protein. {Sometimes my life is rough ;)}

Our reviews?  We are loving all of them!

Kevin and I have both been taking MindWorks for a couple of months now and couldn't be more pleased with the results.  For me, I notice I'm able to be more focused overall and get a lot more done during the day.  I used to have a horrible problem with loosing my train of thought during conversations with others, but no more.  I also stay on task much better through my day.  Kevin says MindWorks helps get him though his days at work and helps him to be more efficient and focused during meetings and while working on projects.  It's been a great addition to our lives!

Vitalized Immunity provides the nutritional support your immune system needs to stay strong.  We were actually given the opportunity to put it to the test and not just taste it about a week after we received our order.  When you wake up one morning with all your usual symptoms of a nasty cold coming on - not to mention your two youngest are over productive snot factories at the time - you become pretty desperate to NOT get sick.  Naturally sweetened with monk fruit and as much Vitamin C as 16 oranges (!!), Vitalized Immunity has a clean citrus flavor that soothes as you drink.  Even better - IT WORKS!  No colds for us!

So, what about the Vitalizing Protein?  My morning ritual is to take MindWorks, Vitalizer and either Vitalizing Protein or 180 Smoothee with my breakfast.  If I miss the pills, I can't keep my mind on track or get much of anything done during the day.  If I skip the protein in my Vitalizing Protein or 180 Smoothee, I get hungry much earlier in the day and end up grazing on junk from the pantry.  All of these combined give me the energy and nutrients I need to get through my day and keep my life healthy.  I also find myself making a cup for an afternoon snack by mixing one scoop instead of two with my milk.

As you can tell, I have really enjoyed these new additions to the Shaklee family.  I thought you might enjoy some of the videos telling more about the science behind these items.  If you have any questions, I'll be happy to help in anyway I can.

Paleo Birthday Meal

Yesterday was my husband's birthday.  He's getting OLD!  Not really.  If he's getting old, that means I'm getting old, too, and I'm not ready to accept that.  Our 30's are sure going by fast, though!

He's not big on celebrating, but I at least wanted to have a nice meal and dessert for him.  For most meals we keep things simple and last night was no different.  But, it was VERY flavorful and filling.

The pork chops were grilled to perfection by Kevin.  I always dry them out, so I definitely let the pro do the grillin'.  He's secret seasoning?  Season Salt.  (Um, guess it's not a secret any more, huh?)

The broccoli is surrounded by julienned sweet potato.  Both of these were sautéed together on the stove top in coconut oil and seasoned with garlic salt and some crushed red pepper flakes to taste.
I'm quite proud of dessert!  Kevin prefers to avoid refined sugars and leans more toward a paleo-ish diet.  (Hence the meat and veggies for supper.)  He would have eaten a blackberry cobbler or a lemon meringue pie, but I wanted to fix something he could really enjoy without all the extra stuff.  My quick search led me to Our Paleo Life and Kendra's Paleo Peach Cobbler recipe.  (So many good recipes on this site!)  It was a big hit with Kevin and most of the kidlets.

Overall, the evening and meal were a great success!

Drink More Water

Quick question - How much water do you drink?

I mean, we all know it's important to drink lots of water.  We hear it on the news, read it in magazines and internet articles, and talk about it with our doctor and friends.  Yet, it can be hard to actually drink the amount of water experts tell us we need.

And, let's face it.  We feel better when we're properly hydrated.  Water is now my first line of defense around our house.

'Mom, I'm tired.'
'Drink a glass of water and lay down for a bit."

'Mom, I have a headache.'
'Drink a glass of water and let me know how you feel in 10 minutes.'

'I'm not hungry.'
'Grab a cup of water and see if that helps.'
(This is for my daughter who's medicine acts as an appetite suppressant.)

'Mom, I'm still hungry after eating everything in sight.' (Steroids are great.)
'Drink some water and let me know if you are still hungry.'

'Mom, my legs/arms/tummy/muscles hurt.'
'Drink a glass of water.'

And, I'll admit, drinking water has been a struggle for all of us until recently.  Not too many years ago, we kept all kinds of beverages in our home: Kool-aid, coke {er... soda?, pop?}, juice.  We just didn't care for drinking plain, ol' water.  Can you blame us with all those other highly sweetened drinks?  It took us a long time to wean ourselves off these other beverages and start CRAVING water.

I used to struggle to drink enough water through the day.  Now, I have some tricks up my sleeve that make it a little easier for me, and my family, get more water in our bodies daily.  Some tricks I'm going to share with you.

Eliminate Other Options

Just like in any other situation: if you don't have in the house to reach for when thirsty, you won't be able to drink it.  To say that is easy, but it really can be hard in actuality.  There were many times I would think 'Oh, we need a treat this weekend.', and I would scurry down the beverage isle in our local grocery store to pick up our favorite root beer.  I finally had to realize we were better off without it and just bypass that isle altogether.  Now we have trouble drinking more than a few sips because of the overwhelming sweetness we are no longer use to.

Add A Straw

This is such a simple thing, but it will make drinking water SO much easier.  I'm sure there are all kinds of scientific reasons for this being a help - I don't know them, though.  All I do know, is that I can drink about twice the amount of water in a day with a straw than I can just drinking from a cup without a straw.  WIN!

Add Some Flavor

Yes.  I know.  I told you to basically kick the flavored beverages to the proverbial curb earlier.  However, there are many healthy ways to add some flavor to an otherwise boring drink and still keep it natural and good for you.

  • Fresh or Frozen Fruit :  A little splash of fresh lemon, lime or even orange can make water a little more enjoyable for many people.  There are also times our family will add frozen blueberries, raspberries or strawberries.  This serves many purposes: acts as 'ice' to help keep the water cold, adds some flavor and the kids love eating the frozen fruit when the water is gone.
  • Energizing Tea:  Both the Green Tea and Pomegranate Tea have great flavor, are all natural and will give you an extra boost of energy to help you get through your day.  The Pomegranate Tea has replaced my multiple cups of coffee I used to drink every day.  I LOVE it!  Both of these are made with Matcha Green Tea which has many health benefits - high in antioxidants, helps with stress, increases metabolism without negative side-effects and promotes overall health.
  • Performance:  Extra hydration is needed on those hot or extra active days.  Shaklee Performance helps us stay hydrated while maintaining blood-glucose levels without added preservatives, artificial flavors or sweeteners.
Find the Right Temperature

There is nothing I like better than a tall glass of ice water on a hot summer day.  But, when the snow is flying outside and I'm standing next to the fire in the living room trying to stay warm, it's the absolute last thing I want.  So, what to do?  I've learned a cup of water in the microwave for 30 seconds or so can make water a good temperature for me to drink during the winter.  It takes a little getting used to, but at least I'm drinking it.  Also, both the Energizing Teas are equally good hot as they are cold.

Measure It

To help me know how much (or how little) water I've had through the day, I always use the same cup.    Since it holds 2 cups, or 16 oz, of water each time I refill it, I'm able to easily keep track of the amount of water I'm consuming.  Much easier than using multiple glasses and only being able to guess at how much each holds.

Hopefully, some of these ideas will help you increase your water intake like they have helped us.  Do you have other suggestions that have helped you?

Apple-Strawberry Smoothee Recipe

This week has been extremely busy!  Several things were already planned and several unexpected things got tossed in to my schedule - just to keep me on my toes, I'm sure.  Like dropping our 5 yr old off at preschool and the van not wanting to start again when I was ready to leave.  Yep.  Morning plans were changed from grocery shopping to getting a new battery put in our vehicle.  At least now I have no worries about whether or not I have the Black & Decker jump starter in the van.

So, during our abnormal week, I finally made it the the local gym.  I never want to go, but I always feel so good afterward.  The kids get to play in the kid room while I workout and then I'll take them to the gymnasium area afterward.
Then we all go home and have a reward for all our exercise.

Apple-Strawberry Smoothee

1/2 C frozen strawberries
1 package apple sauce
2 scoops Vanilla Smoothee mix
1 C milk or water

Put them all together and mix.
My kids love helping make our smoothees.
Enjoy!

Our weekend weather is looking to be much warmer than we've had lately.  60* and sunny is nothing to take for granted in the midwest this time of year!  Hope all of you have some nice weather where you are, too, to enjoy!
